Childhood, Trees, Memories

I grew up camping.
This reminded me of what I have in my childhood mind.

Living in the Pacific Northwest, the trees look like this.

Been thinking of my younger days.
I have good memories, mostly.
Some, not so much.

Got a call from someone.
Hadn't talked to them in years.
It was about someone from the past.
Someone that I haven't talked to or seen in years.
Not good news.
Not at all.

I wish I had good memories of them.
I have a few.
I just don't have many.

I went to see them.
They don't talk now.
I talked about them.
How they got this way.
What happened.

It was an odd day.
It's an odd time.

My childhood memories.
I'd rather remember the trees.

Just saying ...

( A relative is in a coma.
I haven't seen or talked to them in years.
They are my last remaining family.
I felt like I needed to go.
I did but it was very odd.
Talked about them and how things are.
Just odd and weird and just sad.)

Mondays With Meredith Ann

This was a great week !!!
After I sat on the bench for a while,
I went for a stroll.
Nothing like snacking on a few greens.
It helps me grow my multi colored furs.
Which if you haven't already noticed,
I have a lot of.

Today it is rainy.
I am looking out the back window.
In hopes that it will clear up.
Mom doesn't let me go out when it's wet.
Something about clean up on aisle Meredith Ann.
She says it's a joke.

Mom says I can go out later
if it dries up a bit.
Til then, I'll just nap
and dream about what
a wonderful week I had.

~ Meredith Ann ~

Note ~ Mere had a grand time going outside this week.
Weather was just right for her.
Not too hot and not too cold.
This week might be an inside one though.
Lots of drops expected.

That's what those marvelous memories are for after all.

On Friday She Writes

~ ~ ~
I found you the other day.
Was walking by and there you were.
I picked you up.
Where did the time go ?
We both look so young.
 I remember that day.
We were sitting under the tree.
It was sunny and we were resting in the shade.
Mom came out and took our photo.
I had my hand over your shoulder.
I can still remember you.
 It's been a while.
My memories are fading.
I don't think about you like I did.
I forget sometimes.
Lately, you have been on my mind.
Maybe that's why I found you again.
 If only in that photo.

What It Was like

They left that day,
Thinking that the new would be grand.
As time went by those grins faded.
Years of struggle and reality made into wrinkles.

Sometimes it is hard to remember
what it was like
to be what we thought
we were and could be.

That day is still in our memories.
That youthful feel forgotten.
Those souls still traveling.

Old, Used, New

This is a writing promt.
Everything is true except the mug.
Grandma is from France.
 She did collect things.
 Just not this one.
Garage sales
Walking around
Looking at the old
The used
The new to someone else
As a child, my Mom would
have me be the one to sit
Waiting for the elusive buyer
Who just had to have that one
Junk to me but whatever
It got me out
 of cleaning something or other
I went to so many of these
Now, I don't go near them
Been there done that
Oh, I know what ya mean
Old .. used ... throw away
That is my motto now
Give it to the Goodwill or recycle
If you haven't used it in a long time
It's time to go
Unless it has lots of memories
Which this pencil holder does
Not to me but to my Grandmother
Who got it while traveling
She loved getting a cup or paperweight
To state the visit she had
This one was from before she came
here via France & Canada
My Grandma
who ends up was a savvy saver
So, no I won't throw this away
but I still think there's too many pencils
Might have to thin those out
a bit ...

Where Did It Go ?

Where did it go ?

I called an old friend
She sounded almost the same
The tone of her voice
The memories of a long gone past

It was like yesterday
Only it wasn't
What I recall
Was then
Now is grey

Can one go back ?
I remember this
She talked of that
Together we laughed

I was young
So was she
Older now
Memories fade

I can still see her
I'm young
Is it just my dream
Or, is it in my heart

Where did it go ?
My energy
Her fast talks

We are slower
Quieter
Stiller

Is she still there ?
I think
Time has done us
Together
Again

Monday Memories

Although it is only Sunday night, I have decided to remember Monday and the memories I have of Summer. I put together a few pictures from my Ocean vacation. Some of the grass, a couple of the sand and of course the Ocean. I added the crane from my little beach place. Just cause I got a close up of it with my new camera which I think is about the coolest thing ever.

Fall is here. It was cold this morning. Fog was coating the hills. By mid morning, the sun was warming me up again but it was that thought of thinking about turning the heat on. Just that thought .. means that Summer is gone. Oh but not forgotten ..

I know that what I did this Summer only exists in my world. The things I saw. The way it made me feel. The smell of the air. The water rolling in. The moment that I ran back and forth collecting shells. Those all belong to me.

I wanted you to see .. what I saw ... what I felt ... for just one more moment.

On this Monday that I think is meant for Memories ...

(Oh and you are welcome .. I did it for you as much as I did it for me )

Younger Days

'Memories, Like the corners of my mind

Misty water-colored memories

Of the way we were'

Do you wonder what happened to your younger days ?

I do .. a lot ... lately.

I was in coma.
Just those words ... who says that ...

I do.

I guess I'm in a special club. Only I haven't met anyone who's in it. I think we walk around pretending it didn't happen. Those of us who were lucky enough .. to recover enough .. to be able to walk and talk enough .. to act normal enough.

I can't explain what my life is like. The recovery is a blur and at the same time, the longest part of my life. I remember it the most. I do better with the present. The past is a sort of memory for me. I remember some things and some I need help with.

Someone asked me what it was like. I told them it was like nothing. Nothing at all. I didn't think. I just was. I didn't feel. I just did. I was a child learning everything. With time, I remembered more and could function almost like a real person. Only I wasn't ... real. I just was.

It's been a while now and I still have memory problems. Not big things ... I know how to walk and talk and drive and think. I just don't think like I used to. I was educated. I knew lots of things. I felt things. Now, I don't feel like I used to. I don't remember like I used to.

It's like I've learned to pretend. Pretend to be me. Me ... can I look that up? I'm learning who that is by myself.

I used to be young.

I remember some of that. Where did those years go ? When did I get old?

Would it have been better not to remember at all ? I sometimes think it would have ... been better. It's been hard ... learning to be me ... the parts of me ... that I remember. And, even those memories are off a bit.

I'm almost the same only I'm not. I never will be.

I am always in search of peace. I think I lost it when I lost myself.

It's silly ... to be searching for things that are lost ... isn't it ?

I look in the mirror and I see an old lady ... I think I wear my wrinkles well even if some of them I can't recall...

Back to my Youth

On my way back from taking my son to school I had a moment.
Not that kind of moment. A 'wow I used to be young' one.

On the radio came the song, Roxanne

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3kG-7I_Y6k

I was back ... just that quick ... to my youth.

Here I was, a 50ish old lady ... rocking out ... in my car ... in the spitty rain ... while those other youths ... listened to what ever it is they listen to now. Just kidding ... I actually like some of the new tunes.

Man, it was great being young and having those memories of when 'it' came out. All of you older youths ... think back to when you heard that song ... that Summer ... that year ...

Now, I have to figure out what happened since then ... cause, I'm old now.

Oh, well through the wrinkles, I'm still that 19 year old girl listening to rock and roll. At least my old age hasn't taken away those memories ... not yet.

Damn life is good isn't it !!!
There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all of the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for those who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living.
