Big Al

Update ~ The vet just called.
Big Al had one tooth taken out instead of two.
Was doing fine.
I pick him up this evening.
Now, to just see how well he takes his meds. lol
~ A very relieved Grandma ~
(he is my d's cat that I take care of and call Grandson.)

This is my Grandson, Big Al.
He is going to the v e t in an hour.
He is having a mini surgery
to clean his teeth
and remove two or more.

Last week, he went in for his check up
and shots.
The vet said he needed to have
his teeth cleaned and he might
have a cavity.

When I called to get an estimate
and make the appointment,
I was told what he'd written in his notes.

I don't even want to tell you
what the two estimates were.
Big OUCH in the pocket.
That's what credit cards are for.
I was really shocked.
Twice what I thought it would be.
It all adds up.
The iv, senior profile blood work,
30 or 60 minutes of anesthesia,
and you get the idea.
Dollar signs.

Big Al is going to have a lot done.
More than I thought.
Silly me.
I thought a quick cleaning.
Nope, his thirteen years
has gotten to him.

I'm a bit worried.
Maybe like any Grandma would be.

What ifs ...
You all know how that goes.

So, I'll be close to the phone.
In case, they need to call me.

I'll be nursing him back
to his old self
the rest of the week.

He's really a sweet big cat.
Always has been.

Anyway, I thought I'd let you all know.
Maybe a few thoughts
of him would help.
Couldn't hurt ...

Happy straw hat day
to everyone.

How do you all find these things ?

Under The Bed

This is Ashton Rosevelt.
The sweetest grey striped boy ever.
Yes, I know everyone thinks their cat is the best,
only this time, mine is.

My boy was not acting himself.
Not napping on my bed.
Not looking out the windows at the birds.
(not that there are a lot now but still ...)

I found him under my daughter's bed.
She's away and usually he's on top not under.
That's when I noticed his totally closed left eye.
I called.
Got in later that day.
Only Ashton would have none of it.
Had to call them back and explain that he was not
going to come out from under the bed.

I thought, maybe he'd get better
and not have to go to the mean vet.
No Ashton that night either.
No one talking to me and doing their toes at three.
(he is very friendly late at night)

So, I decide I'll find him
and get in somewhere.
Even looked up Er's and walk in places.
I had plans.
My cat was going to be seen.

I called our vet and of course
they couldn't get me in till five.
I told them I'd be by to get a copy of my records.
Suddenly, she said I could bring him in
and leave him and the Dr. would look
at him in between appointments.
(I guess I bring in a lot of money
either that or there's a sign that
flashes five cats and two dogs.
They probably don't want to lose my business.)

I won't go into details as to how much fun
it was to get Ashton into his cage
after getting him out from under the bed.
Nope, I think everyone knows that thrill.

I get him to the vets and start to fill out my paperwork.
I tell her how I was going to go somewhere
if they couldn't have gotten me in.

Suddenly, she says the Dr. will make time for me.
So, I got a room and Ashton and I waited.
They even offered me coffee.
Now, how many times does that happen .. never.

Ends up that Ashton only has a bad scratch.
No permanent damage.
I get the fun times of putting drops
in both his eyes for five days.
And, did I say,
several times a day.

Ashton feels better.
I think it was the numbing medications
that they put in his eye to check it.
Just that made him less cranky.

That's what I did this morning.
This afternoon, I did his drops.
He's back to sitting in the window
watching the birds and leaves.

Me, I'm having tea.
And, looking at my new scratches.

My boy is better.
The rest is no big deal.

Enjoy your weekend.
I plan on it ...
I'm assuming Ashton will be back
on the bed purring away.

The Lab Results Are In

The Vet just called.
The lab results are in.

Good News ~ She got it all.
Bad News ~ Stage two.

A very bad type of cancer.
Very aggressive.

She's calling the cancer Dr. that they know.
She's going to call me back.

For now, we want her incisions to heal.
Been having trouble with one of them.
I've had her into the Vet twice since her surgery.
Was just in there this morning.

And, I am hopeful.
We have a chance.

Dam stage two.

Pet your purr and fur balls.

I'm Not Happy

~ * +* ~
I took Jodie Isabella in to the vet
for her last set of shots just a bit ago.
I am not happy.
The technician that is at the front desk
and who also does the shots is
well just driving me crazy.
Any time I ask a question she answers
like she doesn't know anything about anything.
This has been going on since I got Jodie.
(This person is a recent hire.
Not who I have had in the past.)
I have previously wondered why they hired her.
I just don't get it.
On the phone she's the same way.
And, every time I take Jodie in for her shots,
I get this person.
And every time, she's still the same.
So it isn't that she's new to the job.

She forgets to put Jodie's weight on the paperwork.
I have to remind her and today just was the worst.
She tells me she's left handed
and has to have Jodie in this position or that position.
(This is the first time Jodie was big enough
to get her shots while on the floor
instead of on the exam table.)
She poked my baby three times.
Still couldn't get it in.
Had to get a new needle.
The next time with me helping
I sort of held my hand down on Jodie's tail.
Jodie yelled
and all sorts of people came to see what happened.
This tech quickly says that I stepped on my dog.
I so wanted to say that this tech doesn't know what she's doing.
When she was done with the three shots,
I had to remind her that Jodie needed her nails trimmed.
Then there was the talk about if I wanted to help her do it
or if it was ok to take Jodie in the back
so she could get some help doing it.

I tell you I was so glad to get out of there.
Glad and mad.
Why do they hire someone like that ?
Now, I need to find a new vet.
I really can't take this anymore.
Today was it.
I can't trust my baby to this place.
I've been going there for over ten years.
I like the vet but who hires someone like this.
Seriously .. I won't have her touch my baby again.
I feel like telling this vet why I'm leaving
but he has so much business
that he wouldn't care and I'm sure
he'd think it was me and not his employee.

How do you find a good vet
for your babies ?

Seriously, I thought I had one
but now I don't.

Hope your Friday and weekend is fun
and all your Purr and Fur Balls
are napping away.

~ JC and Jodie Belle ~
She's napping now.

Changes

I have made some changes
A new template for one
I'm learning every day
Very slowly
How to tweak this
And rearrange that
This time it worked
So, many colors
To decide on
Yikes !!!
I had to do a new pic
For my header
Figuring out my new Photoshop
Isn't easy for a not puter person like me
I'm ok with what I now have
What do you all think ?

In my real world
I had to take Bella into the vet
Old Lady problems
Will have results tomorrow
Why does it always cost over a hundred
To visit the vet
And, again no coffee or tea offered
While I wait for the ladies to do tests on
My dear sweet Bella
Who got confused and thought she was going
To the spa
After that morning of pulling & tugging
I need to go to a spa
Instead, I made a new cup of coffee
Delic !!!

Furry Dogs

Just got done being on the back porch with the girl's. Maddy Jean and Bella. My Golden and Labrador Retriever.

I came out with my furminator and a plastic bag ... I was on a mission from dog. Thought I was going to say something else didn't you.

I had looked up grooming in my area. A mobile one came up. They come to your house and they do .. everything ... to your dog .. for you. Only it cost $$$$$ ... how much ?

Since my two hairy one's are going in for their very expensive shots this week ... which have only expired by a few days ... I thought I ought to wait for the bubble bath for dogs van and do a bit of dehairing myself.

First, the furminator is a marvelous device. I got the yellow one. I think it comes in blue too but I got the middle sized one due to price. They saw me coming but I did not ... I say again ... did not buy the most pricey one. Being the good shopper that I am.

I started with the Golden which after a moment ... realized that I was not going to play with her ... at least not the kind of play she had expected. I got one side done ... and by done I mean I went over it once ... at least I think I did cause with a Golden Retriever all you see is puffs of light hair floating around ... like a hairy cloud. I grabbed what I could see and then some. The furminator is so good that I can't keep up with it.

I tried to role her over to get the other side and well, she got up and went down the steps in a blonde cloud. That's when I called her sister. "Bella, come here" Bella has always been a good girl. Comes when she's called or at least when I call her and I'm looking right at her. She tried to do the "who me" look but she put her head down and came to me on the deck. ( She always puts her head down when she doesn't want to do something but she always does it anyway.)

I combed her a long time. She was two colors. Light and dark brown. Now, she is mostly dark brown. I still have more to do on her but at least I got the other side done. She doesn't run away as fast as her sister. Something to be said about having a dog with bad hips.

Maddy Jean, being the goofy pup that she is and maybe due to being blond, came on the deck like she'd forgotten what had happened. I got to get the other side combed for a while. She finally tried to nip me ... not a real one ... just one that said ... "I'm done now".

Which we all were. I got a full bag of hair, the birds got some nesting material, the rest of the hair is biodegradable I'm assuming, and I got some exercise ... the bending and twisting part ... and I can mark that off my 'to do' list.

So, when I take them into the vet this week for their slightly over due shots ... really it's just a day or two ... ok, it might be a week but who doesn't do that ... they won't look like the vet needs to call animal rescue on me.

The nails though ... that's another story ...
There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all of the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for those who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living.
