Furry Dogs

Just got done being on the back porch with the girl's. Maddy Jean and Bella. My Golden and Labrador Retriever.

I came out with my furminator and a plastic bag ... I was on a mission from dog. Thought I was going to say something else didn't you.

I had looked up grooming in my area. A mobile one came up. They come to your house and they do .. everything ... to your dog .. for you. Only it cost $$$$$ ... how much ?

Since my two hairy one's are going in for their very expensive shots this week ... which have only expired by a few days ... I thought I ought to wait for the bubble bath for dogs van and do a bit of dehairing myself.

First, the furminator is a marvelous device. I got the yellow one. I think it comes in blue too but I got the middle sized one due to price. They saw me coming but I did not ... I say again ... did not buy the most pricey one. Being the good shopper that I am.

I started with the Golden which after a moment ... realized that I was not going to play with her ... at least not the kind of play she had expected. I got one side done ... and by done I mean I went over it once ... at least I think I did cause with a Golden Retriever all you see is puffs of light hair floating around ... like a hairy cloud. I grabbed what I could see and then some. The furminator is so good that I can't keep up with it.

I tried to role her over to get the other side and well, she got up and went down the steps in a blonde cloud. That's when I called her sister. "Bella, come here" Bella has always been a good girl. Comes when she's called or at least when I call her and I'm looking right at her. She tried to do the "who me" look but she put her head down and came to me on the deck. ( She always puts her head down when she doesn't want to do something but she always does it anyway.)

I combed her a long time. She was two colors. Light and dark brown. Now, she is mostly dark brown. I still have more to do on her but at least I got the other side done. She doesn't run away as fast as her sister. Something to be said about having a dog with bad hips.

Maddy Jean, being the goofy pup that she is and maybe due to being blond, came on the deck like she'd forgotten what had happened. I got to get the other side combed for a while. She finally tried to nip me ... not a real one ... just one that said ... "I'm done now".

Which we all were. I got a full bag of hair, the birds got some nesting material, the rest of the hair is biodegradable I'm assuming, and I got some exercise ... the bending and twisting part ... and I can mark that off my 'to do' list.

So, when I take them into the vet this week for their slightly over due shots ... really it's just a day or two ... ok, it might be a week but who doesn't do that ... they won't look like the vet needs to call animal rescue on me.

The nails though ... that's another story ...

I had a persian cat once that I let be a cat instead of some prize that never got to experience life and he would get so matted up (I was not a good mom...no brushing or combing here) that every spring I would have to take those cute little long needled embroidery scissors and clip the fur mats off off his body. It would take three days because he would endure it only for so long. Usually by the time I nipped him for the third time. When done he looked like a badly shaved cat with furry face, legs, and tail.

Your story brought back fond (and not so fond) memories of my attempt to brush my Gloden Lab Valor. Fur would be bowing everywhere. Including up my nose. Of course, with hair covered hands there wasn't a lot I could do about it. A great use for all that hair. Put it around your garen and flowers. GREAT rabbit and squirrel repellant!

Gotta try the Furminator! Most of my cats are short hair so they shed easier - a lot of work this time of year for pet owners.

Wow! That was a lot of work!

They both look better now but yeah it was a furry situation ...

And, the continuing story of Moana ... who used to have a lovely name, Sabrina Isabella ... Moaning again last night.

I was up around 3 am ... seems to be the time I wake up to her ... and went back to bed around 3:30 ... demensia ... well, it's a pain in this old ladies head, neck, arse ...

Maybe she's out there doina a midnight hunt for her lost fur ...

She's of course snoozing now ...

Maybe I should too

Oh, that's not my Golden. It was on the furminator site. Looks a lot like mine though ... only mine has a bit of a weight problem.

If you go to the bottom of my blog, there she is with her sister.

My friend has one of those for her husky. It does work really well. Nice post. I love reading about my followers pets.

I am dying to get some dogs, but after our pet rabbit lost twice it's body weight in fur last month my hubby is less than enthusiastic...

I might just have to live vicariously through you...

funny...I have a non-shedding dog who I take to be groomed....but I can cut toe nails with the best of them and kind of enjoy it...which is kind of sick, huh ?

Oh, I can relate to this. My little dog, the size of a squirrel, has SO much hair. I had not heard of this tool before.

Love your blog. I had a Russian Blue cat for 17 1/2 years. His name was Icer and he was bred in Dallas Texas. He was the best animal ever. I miss him dearly. He would come when I would call his name, and he would sit up on my t.v. and watch with me. He was sold by a breeder because his tail got caught in the cage and was broken. No more runways for him. He had won many awards and had an unusually beautiful face, but his personality was remarkable.

That's a lot of work! I do brush my Great Danes, they shed a lot too, and the cats - oh my. If only I could make something constructive with all that fur!

Glad to hear that you got it.

I like what I gave the three of you.

Just a fun thing ... don't worry about when you do it or how many you give out ...

I gave three cause I felt like it ... one is fine, I think.

Not to Worry ...

JC - I am so sorry that I have not been reading your blog! I don't know what I was thinking of, to miss it! So I have read the entire page this afternoon, and I will be coming back!
I also need to corner someone with the brush, but Annie is only 25 pounds, so usually I carry her to the brush, and then she is resigned to her fate. Plus they both get treats when I am done. I don't brush Jake, as his hair is shorter than cat hair, but the back seat of the car has a silver cast in some lights, from what he has shed there.
So, by the time I read all of your posts, I had forgotten what your question was, and had to go back to look! That part of the Carp River is one that I have not walked beside before. But it is less than a quarter mile from the parts that I do frequent. I have been broadening my horizons since I got the new camera!
And then I was reading the comments, and did you know they make nail polish for dogs? It dries instantly. Too bad no one can see Annie's nails, or her eyes!

There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all of the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for those who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living.
