She grew a small garden at the side of her home.
Nothing fancy. Just a few plants bought at the local grocery store.
She'd ask me to water them. Which I would.
Taking her old hose and walking through the gates.
She'd talk to me through the window or the balcony above.
Always thanking me and asking how big they were.
I remember the garden getting smaller.
One Summer there was none.
No bags of tomatoes to take home.
She past away that year.
And, when I think of her I remember those darn tomatoes.
Now, isn't that just silly ...

what a memorie a very heartfelt magpie!
My dad was the gardener in our family. He had a huge garden in our back yard every year up until his last year. I have a few tomato plants every year...but nothing like he did. Good memories.
What a dear post, such nice memories.
That isn't silly at all, that is what memories are for!
Touching and tender Magpie.
Nice memories.

Beth here....I hear you....I lost my mom 16 years ago and there are so many things that remind me of her. I am so happy for memories....
I know what you mean, happy memories but so sad there will never be more.

Memories show up in the strangest places....even tomatoes....blessings.bkm
Sweey words from a beautiful heart. Bless you!
What a lovely memory of your mother.
Not silly at all, Sweet Magpie!
=^..^=
So beautiful. I think that half a person does, is for what someone may remember after they are gone. When opening a tomato, the seeds look like a little galaxy where many lives have lived and will continue to live on.
Having good memories is precious even if a little sad. This was a nice thing you shared with us about your mother.
It's nice to have those cherished memories of your mom. Mine is now in a nursing home, at 86, she just had emergency surgery last Friday for a bowel obstruction. She doesn't even know my brother and I since a stroke last Feb. It is so heartbreaking.
Your Mom is always with you, but you never stop missing her; no one ever loves you like your Mom...Wishing you peace and comfort with your memories.
amazing how simple acts of life, everyday objects can still hold a lifetime of memories and love of those in our lives. thank you for sharing. this was "heartfelt" as others have said.
We never get over the loss of our parents, I think. This is a wonderful tribute to your mother!
I think they are a nice metaphor for her life.
glad this one stirred those memories...sometimes that is a good thing...nice magpie.
I think your memories are priceless and your tears profound. A lovely tribute to your mother.
