I saw this story posted in another blog. Thought it was worth passing on.
Her cat looks like a twin sister for my Lilly Ann
The Starfish Story
An old man walking along the beach at dawn sees a young man picking up the star fish and throwing them out to sea. "Why are you doing that?" The old man inquired. The young man explained that the starfish had been stranded on the beach by a receding tide and would soon die in the daytime sun. "But the beach goes on for miles," the old man said. "And there's so many! How can your effort make any difference?" The young man looked at the starfish in his hand and without hesitating threw it to safety in the sea. He looked up at the old man, smiled and said, "It will make a difference to that one."

Hi, JC. Thank you for leaving a comment on my post about Gracie, twin to your Lilly Ann (although G's a New Mexican and L.A. is a Washingtonian).
I've been looking around your blog--cats, dogs, flowers--looks like my cup of tea! We used to live in Washington, too. I miss the ocean and the mountains and the fresh fish. Although in New Mexico we have the incredible sky and the desert and fresh chile...
I'm curious about something and hope you don't mind if I ask. When you say you woke up from your coma, do you mean literally or figuratively?
Very nice...Something we should always remember - what we do does make a difference.
Clairz ~ I was in a coma for 9 days due to having sepsis. Being in the coma, saved me. I woke up and had to relearn to walk and talk. It's been 3 years and I am almost back to what I was. I still have memory problems. I went through quite an ordeal. In the rehab part of my hospital stay, all I wanted to do was get home to my cats and dogs. My humans too. That's how I got out a week early. I promised to do what ever my at home nursing team told me. Physical, Speech and Rehab therapists who came to my home. I could write a novel about my life. Maybe I will
Needless to say though, your new purrball reminded me of Lilly Ann.
Also, I had not read the Starfish story. It touched home for me and I just had to mention it.
Great story...with a great message...thanks for sharing that...
Hi JC,
What a story and I definitely related to it! A few days ago, when I was taking a walk on the beach, I saw a starfish up near the sea wall in the seaweed. The tide was going out so I picked it up and set it in the ocean.
I haven't seen a starfish on that beach in many years!
I love that sentiment!!
