The life she lived was terribly cruel.
The dust came in and crowded.
The air she did have was full of fresh.
She held her baby close.
It was this that kept her going.
Hot fires and coal were all she knew,
til he came to town.
He'd drink on the porch
while she rocked in the chair.
Not much was said,
just looks through the smoke.
When the season was over,
he took her hand.
She walked with him down the trail.
The baby smiled as they got in his car.
Never would they return.
As the years went by,
she told her story.
That Mountain is dark.
The memories too.
Only she made it out
and so can you.

She had been there her whole life.
Her husband was probably gone
or, she left him for this new man.
Either way, she got out of there and started new.
