Yesterday, I went to our local hardware store.
I needed to get a new shovel.
The night before, I'd broken our old one in half.
Yes, In half.
It was an old wooded one but still ...
It was a shock
This time I got an aluminum one
I was walking around the store
with my shovel, my wallet, keys and glasses
When a fellow starts talking to me about my tool
I was in the 'get rid of pests in your garden' row
Looking for the slug bait ... the good for pets ... kind
When this fellow started up a conversation
I, had my hands full, and tried to be nice
Normally I'm not a nice person ... ok, I am ...
When I'm waiting in line
Who is behind me but the fellow and his wife
While I'm paying they start laughing with the cashier
About me and my shovel and my slug bait
I told them the story of breaking the shovel
They kept laughing while I told them I needed a new one
And needed slug bait too
Was it something I said ...
Was it what I was wearing ...
Or, am I just that entertaining ?
I'm figuring it was a slow day ...

Maybethey just liked your aura and you made them feel happy, also they probably saw you smile and some people are drawn to that too, and as you say, you are friendly :) Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm glad the pictures of that little beaver brought good memories. I got such a kick out seeing him. I have seen signs of them occasionally but this is the first one I have laid my eyes on. It was very cool for me also.
Denise ~ Welcome to my silly Siamese blog. I know that watching beavers, you need to be quiet and it's like watching a totally different world. That you had the pleasure to enjoy
Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my blog. You know, I think people are simply drawn to a sweet smile and a kind face.
Good luck with your brand new shovel.:o) I bet it was a surprise to see the other one break right in half! Sometimes these things take you by sheer surprise and leave you wondering just how that happened.:o) Again thanks so much for dropping by and do come for another visit soon, I just love it when folks stop by to say hello!:o) Enjoy the rest of your week.
Smiles...
Beverly
I'm sure it's that you're totally entertaining and they could tell you were a kind soul, paying all kinds of blessings forward.
Broken many a shovel myself. But still, I always go for the wood handled ones myself.
Maybe they just thought it was amusing for a woman to buy a shovel. There are still some people out there like that.
Not that it wasn't your sunny smile.
That's a cute story, and I really love the shovel photo.
Um, don't know...
What kind of perfume were you wearing? *giggles

It is always wonderful to share laughter, we make our Momma and Daddy laugh all of the time! Momma thinks her neighbors used to use beer for slug bait ... silly slugs must get toasted then drown ... hee hee!

I want thank you so much for coming to wish me a Happy Birthday, it made my special day the best it could ever be!

Most people can't get my attention when I'm shopping (which is a rare event - I order most everything online), so my obliviousness most likely discourages any further interaction. My husband diplomatically says I'm just unaware of what's going around me but what he means is that I'm too self-involved to notice others trying to interact with me. I'm working on it, but it's hard! I'm always freaked out when someone I don't know starts up conversation. I worry, should I know them? Do they know me? I'm sure I look panicked.
You obviously do much better. I'm best off staying home.
Shovels might be the perfect solution instead of beer for ridding the garden of slugs ... though a long/boring night waiting for them to appear ;)
Did you have spinach on your teeth?
It was a nice story, even if you did. :D
maybe they were drunk? or high? (just kidding) my pet peeve is cheap tools...the way they make things now irritates me...something is always breaking.
If you live in the country like me the hardware store is a place for making fun conversation. :)
Doesn't matter where Auntie Dar of the Rustic Ranch goes, strangers strike up a conversation with her. You probably have one of those open, approachable faces and manners that makes people comfortable...just like my auntie.
Ha ha, well the phrase slug bait makes me laugh, but I'm easily amused!
:)
Thanks for stopping by my blog - those are impatiens growing in baskets. You might try scattering crushed eggshells around your plants or placing beer in shallow pans about. The slugs won't crawl across the eggshells and they'll make their way into the pan and you can toss the lot of them out. It can be worrisome to put pellets in the yard with pets - they can get it on their feet and when they lick, accidentally ingest it.
They were probably wondering what you were going to do with that shovel? I've tagged you, come on over to my Blog and see why :)
Blessings, Star
I was buying the 'good for pets' kind of slug bait. I have a long driveway and I put it around my many flower barrels.
Maybe they thought I was going to use the shovel ... for the slugs .. I quess.
I like wooden shovels too but my Hubby told me to get an aluminum one so it wouldn't break.
Star ~ I'll go over and see what you did to me ...
