Yellow Beauty

Today I had some new feathery friends arrive.
There were four or five of them.
Gorgeous yellow with black and white.
I took a few photos through my window.
I went all over the house looking for my bird book.
Finally, I asked my daughter if she'd seen it.
It was on her book shelf. Why ?
I'll never know but the mystery is solved.
My visitor today is the Evening Grosbeak.

Well there you go ... Starling -sized, stocky finch with a very large, pale greeish or yellowish conical bill. Mall has brown head shading to yellow on lower back, rump, and underparts; bright yellow forehead and eyebrow; bold white wing patches. Female similar by grayer.

This grosbeak formerly bred no farther east than Minnesota, but more food available at bird feeders may have enabled more birds to survivie the winter, and the species now breeds east to the Atlantic. Like most of the northern finches, however, these birds are more numerous in some years than in others. In winter they feed in flocks mainly on the seeds of box elder or on sunflower seeds at feeders. In spring the outer coating of the bill peels off, exposing the blue-green color beneath.

From my Handy Dandy Bird Book ... known as page 774 of the National Audubon Society .. Field Guide To Birds .. Western Region of North America.

And sorry for the spelling errors .. I was actually typing from the book instead of the normal copy and paste ..

Coffee is good but the fingers .. they aren't what they used to be.

Darn coma and not ms .. (remember the experts say I don't have it .. just bad migraines ... oh, what do they know )

Oh by the way, the yellow friends have been visiting me all week. Maybe they live here or are just passing by ... time will tell

Wow you have all kinds of different birds where you are. That is a pretty handy book.

There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all of the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for those who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living.
