Lilly Ann

I sat on the porch yesterday.
It’s been a long time since I’ve done that.
It was our place.
I would call her and she would come out from under a bush.
She’d been there most of the day.
Close enough to see me but not touch.
I’d sit and chat with her about the day.
Where’d she been and what I’d done.
I’d tell her it was time to come in.
Sometimes she would.
Sometimes she’d say no.
The door was always open to her if she did.
I would try several times.
When she was ready, she’d come in.
One day in July she spent the night.
I never saw her again.
Now, I don’t sit on the porch much.

Bless Heart! We know that had to make you terribly sad.

How nice of you to reach out to here like that, to connect. I'm sure she felt your generosity of spirit.

Well, we can hope her first owners decided to keep her inside. It's possible. I hate to think of the alternative.

JC...I remember when she went missing. What a beautiful girl.

Lilly Ann was my feral cat. She loved to go outside. She would always be in a bush or just over the fence. Always near. She came if I called her name. I would sit on my porch and we would spend afternoon in the sun together. Me and my feral Siamese. One evening she did not come in. I put flyers up. I never saw her again.

Since then, several neighbors have lost their cats. With all the new construction in our area and woods being torn down, a coyotee has moved to my woods.

I hear her at night. No one gets out anymore. I don't know what happened to Lilly Ann. I just know that she would be in my yard if she could.

She was too scared to do anything else. She only trusted me.

I live down a long driveway surrounded by woods. I'd let my cats out during the day for 12 for years.

They've been indoor only now for two.

I miss her dearly but she was feral and loved to go out and sleep under the rhody trees.

My heart is still out on that porch with her. It always will be.

Sorry for the miss spellings and grammer errors. What I said, came from my heart. It's still broken.

I know you still ache for her. She was your precious girl. I know too her spirit feels you sitting on the porch and hears you talking to her.

I called her name when I sat there. Just cause that's what I always did. She would come out of her bushes and mew at me. Not ready to come in yet, she would flop by the azalea and blink her blue eyes at me. We spent Summers doing that.

It's been two years and I really haven't gone out there. This was the first time in two years.

Her spirit is out there. Her spirit is in everything Spring. The flowers, the petals from the tree, the Azalea that will bloom later.

All there so I can enjoy them like I used to when she was here.

I don't talk about her much. I can't. My heart is still broken. I think it always will be.

Lilly Ann ...

There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all of the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for those who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living.
