Someone Told Me

Someone told me that Winter was the worst.
Leaving what was and walking behind.
Not looking back or to the side.
When I hear about the new,
I think of what I did.
I can do nothing now.
Visiting the past can hurt
and  heal but still
I know what was and still is.

( I haven't written in a while.
Not that what I do would be called writing.
The color red reminded me of
my heart and what I have done
and what I cannot do.
I watch now and hope
that what I did was ok.)

I Wait For You

I wait for you to return.
Left me you did.
I was walking.
The wind blew me away.
I looked back and no where could you be found.
Somedays I see you and hope.
Only it's not you.
It's the memories that I have.
Making me think of what was.
 I am here.
Waiting for the sun.
The dreams I have are good.
Only when I wake,
it's a bit cold.

Visiting

It was always warm when I went.
The steps would make my shoes muddy.
Sometimes there were trails that lead.
Sprinkers could be heard.
We'd get lost sometimes but always find her.
She'd be under the shade of the tree.
Waiting for our return.
I'd try not to step on the neighbors.
Wasn't always easy.
Off I'd go to get some water.
After a while, we'd leave.
I would look back and smile.
The Lilacs would last a while.

What It Was like

They left that day,
Thinking that the new would be grand.
As time went by those grins faded.
Years of struggle and reality made into wrinkles.

Sometimes it is hard to remember
what it was like
to be what we thought
we were and could be.

That day is still in our memories.
That youthful feel forgotten.
Those souls still traveling.

Blind Date

John plays but puts her in a daze.
Peter spies things she already knew.
Clark views the entertainment
she's seen many times.
Walter serves the food
while she waits for him to leave.
The view out the window
is what she wants.
The evening will end.
She'll laugh with her friends.
Tell them how she'll never do that again.
Someone waits for her beyond the trees.
Stars and laughter are what she needs.
No more of these blind dates.
She's already found her soul mate.
~ JC ~

(I see her on a set up.
Her family wants her to marry one of these men.
She is just waiting. Looking out the window.
Knowing that he is waiting for her just out of town.
They will talk under the stars.
 They will be happy.
She's the wealthy one who gets to pick who she marries.
She picks the local farmer who has charm.)

Bright Hope

The light above brightens.
Leading the hope of new.
Brave the souls that venture.
Leaving the revenge that Winter grew.

Melting Tides

As the window fell,
I saw the aspects of you.
Hidden within the shine.
No gathering of thoughts.
Just waves of knowing
that the way you were,
was sitting on the edge.
Always looking below
to see if the winds were near.
Nothing blocked me from
the thoughts of looking
towards the inner glow.
Tilting forward to catch
the melting tides of
what I knew.

Sitting In The Back

Sitting in the back
I would see
Blending and Shifting
I'd try to figure
Where they would go
Never could
Still can't
~ ~
Now that I'm older
I wish
 I was still
sitting in the back
Life is always
 changing
like that window
of my youth

Path To My Soul

You all know that feeling.
The windows are rolled down.
Your arms hanging out.
Bare feet up.
Singing to that old song.
Nothing but brush and hills
on the roadside.
A stream following you on your way.
One can imagine
a day of fishing by those trees.
As we turn that corner,
we know it's just up the road.
Nothing but trails and sun.
A path to find the way to the
soul we left behind.

~ JC ~

(I imagined the drive on the way to Bryce Canyon.
 The dryness of the trails.
There's a creek that follows on your way.
In the middle of no where.
And then, the gorgeous park and it's
beauty shows up like it was waiting just for you.
You and hundreds of others
who made reservations in advance.
But, that's another story ...)

What Did She See

She left a bit ago.
Never looking far.
Always checking first.
No one noticed the look she had.
The way she entered or left.
The  world never saw what she knew.
As one who looked but never knocked,
what did she see from within.

Window To My Soul

The darkness that surrounds me.
It comes in but never goes.
Always lingering in the back.
I need to sit for a while.
Listening to my thoughts.
I know what I want.
If only I could fly.

(again this was done on the fly)

Rolling Away

The wind was blowing.
The trees were swaying as if they knew the joke.
The end of Summer has arrived.
 Colder mornings have appeared.
Like it was expected.

I think it's too early.
I sit on the bench watching my dogs play.
My broom waits for me.

 All I do is sweep.
Life keeps throwing things in my way.
I wait as long as I can.
Trying not to trip
over the piles.
Today,
it is the green and yellows
that have my attention.
While my dogs play,
I get that broom.
No more multi colors on my deck.

The wind blows.
 The trees sway.
The Summer it ends.

Oh what the heck.
I think I'll join.
Down I go.
 Rolling away.
Get me now.
 I want to play.

~ JC ~
(I remember raking the leaves in my yard as a child. Getting that pile and the wind would blow. Sometimes I'd laugh and sometimes I'd roll down the hill and join them. )

Who I used to be

I don't know where the time went.
Silly things got in the way.
No one knew what was going on.
I knew there was something wrong.
I didn't belong.
They would talk to me.
 They weren't kind.
 I started to plan.
 I would get there.
Some day I would walk out of this cave.
I left behind what was my world.
I won't go back.
It calls me asking why I left.
No one but me knows why.
 I think of those times.
When I do, I keep walking
like you do when you see a reflection.
Only what I see is in me.

Who are they ?

Two ladies are walking down a street
No one can hear what they are saying
Just hands and faces moving
A grin here a laugh there
Who are they ?
What did they just do ?
Bread in a basket
Coffee being held
Down the alley they go
A door opens into a flower garden
A bench  waits for their arrival
They both go in and close the door
Don't you wish you had that key ?

No Time

It's been warm
The cats are melting
Dogs are panting
Fans blowing on them as I write
Blinds pulled
Sun beating down
Sprinklers going
No time to make the bed
It's Summer !!!

My Mother loved her garden

She grew a small garden at the side of her home.
Nothing fancy. Just a few plants bought at the local grocery store.
She'd ask me to water them. Which I would.
Taking her old hose and walking through the gates.
She'd talk to me through the window or the balcony above.
Always thanking me and asking how big they were.
I remember the garden getting smaller.
One Summer there was none.
No bags of tomatoes to take home.
She past away that year.
And, when I think of her I remember those darn tomatoes.
Now, isn't that just silly ...

~ JC ~
(My Mother has been gone for over ten years and yet writing about tomatoes has brought tears to this old cat lady who lives in the woods)

Everyone has a story

Everyone has a story. They tell it loud. It shows in their walk. The end of the mouth. Wrinkled or not. One might be sad. The other in the middle of a twist. Either way, their story is being told. Some yell. Others are quiet. It takes a while to find out the who, what and where. The reasons for the distress. The manner of which the tale they are acting in began. Sometimes you can figure it all out. I am a listener. A watcher. I take it all in. And, when I get all my facts, sometimes even I sing it out for all to hear.

Under the trees ...

I grew up adoring my Dad. He was soft spoken and hard working. He always wore a plaid shirt whether it was flannel or not. Even in the Summer, he'd roll up his sleeves if it got warm. He came from the hot part of the states. Drove to our colder area to see the Ocean. He saw it and never went back.

I remember him fondly.  He past away after a very long illness. He fought for what seemed like my whole life. When he went, he did it with such grace. To this day, I miss him. I miss talking to him.

One Summer,  I went for a walk with him. We found a nice place by the river. Under the trees where the water ran wild. It was there that he taught me to fish. He told me all about it. I watched him put those cute bees on his hooks. He didn't catch much. I think he just liked the quiet and the possibility of it. I remember that day. I think of it often. It was so special to me. I remember walking back with the dust flying up from the rocky road. No one knew that we'd just had the time of my life. So fishing, nah, not for me but watching my Dad fish, yes.

Blue Plate Special

I remember going to the big city for shopping and lunch. Me in the back seat excited to be going somewhere. We'd arrive and I knew we were some place special. The big buildings would welcome me.  We'd walk through the double doors and there would be all the fancy things. The elevator doors would open unto the many floors. The one I loved was where we would have lunch. I think it was on the sixth floor.  We'd have to walk past the fancy section. The one where I wasn't allowed to touch anything. Not even the counters. I'd stop and look and be so in awe of the details of the plates.

On the way home, I imagined that when I grew up I'd go back to that store and buy some of them. Of course, I never did live in that big city. I bought my dishes from our local store. Not as big or exciting as when I was a child but those memories still remain with me. That moment of knowing that those plates were special. They weren't ordinary. They were to be treasured.

Magpie 13

Magpie 13
I remember late at night we'd start to play.
Sometimes when it was rainy we'd be inside.
Nothing else to do but start the game.
I was terrible at figuring things out.
This color
That one
Who could quess what it was
It past the time while we waited.
The rain would go on it's way.
The stars would stop hiding.
The new day
The fresh one
Would lead me out to play
Even in the walks of my life
I would sometimes play the game
Can you figure out what it was ?

There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all of the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for those who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living.
