Can I have a bit of Prednisone with my Coffee ?
Ashton Rosevelt, my nine year old grey striped tabby,
is taking meds for his love of pulling his fur out.
When Dr. asked if I wanted pills or liquid,
I said liquid,
thinking I'd have more luck getting
that in than the pills.
I'm not sure I was right.
This meowning,
while I was in the bathroom,
in walks Ashton to say MEOW.
I slowly close the door,
he didn't notice.
Was too busy doing the
MEOW
and I get the bottle and syringe ready.
Still no problems.
I thought I had it made.
Oh, was I ever wrong.
I think and that's a maybe
that I got some and I mean a few drops
of his don't scratch yourself
and pull your fur out medicine in him.
I did however get a lot of it on me and the floor.
Yes, I did.
It flew everywhere.
Man can he shake his head.
So, I was thinking
Alex, may I have
Prednisone With My Coffee
for Two Hundred
And he would have said,
Well, yes you may.
The one thing I do know Is that
I'm not scratching or pulling out my fur.
Ashton .. now that's a different story.

That stuff is vile, even if you have it compounded with a flavour (like chicken), which is what my former vet clinic did 4 or 5 years ago when Annie was sick at the time and had a course of Prednisolone. Even so, she foamed at the mouth and it was awful for us both. I used to have to straddle her on the floor, hold her between my knees and sit back, putting some of my weight on her, and then be quick with the syringe.
BTW, that straddling technique hasn't worked with Derry with his bout of cystitis and the liquid pain meds (only comes in liquid). I had to put him on the counter and scruff him gently but firmly and hope like heck I could get some of the meds into him.
So good luck--if you haven't tried the straddling (you kneel on the floor with the cat between your legs, in case I wasn't clear), give that a go. At least it leaves both hands free, unless you have a cat that turns wild (like Derry).
Oh the fun of giving meds to a cat....Beth has a terrible time doing that.... Me? I don't mind one bit!
oh.. what a saga.. we would have gone with your approach too...BUT .. never underestimate a feline when medical intervention is required by a mere human (even a loved one). Love Darcy and Bingley xx
Oh that doesn't sound too yummy to me!
I think giving cats meds should be an Olympic sport...it's VERY challenging! Good luck with the next dose.
What a wonderful title for a song. Now you've got THAT stuck in my head...
Ug I do hate giving meds-- of any kind- to the kitties. The dog-- he will take anything if you hide it in some cat food. Did you try wrapping him in a towel and theh holding him like a football? Though Fuzzy Tales straddle sounds like a good idea too.
I always load up more than they are supposed to have too with the hope that they MIGHT get close to what they need.
Little Boogers!
I hopes that you are able to get the nasty taste out of your mouth!
It must taste terrible. I find pills in Pill Pockets work best for me!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and following! Just looking around here, and had to grin at the thought of giving a cat medicine! They just are total masters at independence...and flexibility! The only thing more difficult than medicating is caging to take them to the vet...partly because I never fail to get tickled at the antics and I'm laughing too hard to be a good participant in the activity!
I have lived this.
I was going to tell you about the straddling technique, but I am too late! Cross your feet behind the cat so she can't back out from underneath you!
Hope you do not start pulling your hair out, now, too!
