Blue Plate Special

I remember going to the big city for shopping and lunch. Me in the back seat excited to be going somewhere. We'd arrive and I knew we were some place special. The big buildings would welcome me.  We'd walk through the double doors and there would be all the fancy things. The elevator doors would open unto the many floors. The one I loved was where we would have lunch. I think it was on the sixth floor.  We'd have to walk past the fancy section. The one where I wasn't allowed to touch anything. Not even the counters. I'd stop and look and be so in awe of the details of the plates.

On the way home, I imagined that when I grew up I'd go back to that store and buy some of them. Of course, I never did live in that big city. I bought my dishes from our local store. Not as big or exciting as when I was a child but those memories still remain with me. That moment of knowing that those plates were special. They weren't ordinary. They were to be treasured.

How true, it's amazing what things make up our most important memories!

Lovely memories of the city! I too remember going to Boston at Christmas and having lunch at Macy's, hardly a fancy place but to me it was!

amazing how many of magpie posts have tied memories to a plate or a pattern. :)

Lovely association and human connections made through the very lovely willow plate(s) -- it is funny how certain things can trigger our memories -- some good some bad but always ours.

Good morning JC. I was the same way as a kid. Mom took us shopping at D J Stewarts and they had a wonderful kitchen department. I loved looking at the beautiful dishes. I wanted one plate from about six different settings. As a kid I thought that would be so great.

I love what stays with us forever..who knew??

There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all of the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for those who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living.
