Baby In My Tree

This is who I saw in my woods
A big baby owl
Isn't he or she cute as can be ?

The birds in my woods are not
being friendly at all
They sing and sing and SING

All he/she is doing
Is sitting on a branch

I was able to get a good photo
I could hear the HOO HOO

I'd heard that sound for a while
but the baby asking for food
Sounds more like a hawk
Now, after looking on the net
I knew that it was the sound of a baby owl
(known as an owlette)

I could hear it
I looked and looked
And, there he/she was
Sitting in the tree just outside my fence

The next day it flew to my front woods
And, this time it was in my yard

As I type this, the birds are singing
He/she must be in my side woods

I told you I live in the woods
Now, I have the proof

Vacations ... naw
Who would want to leave this place ?

How fabulous! Several years ago we had a barred owl on campus; it hung around in the trees outside our office windows for several days. I watched it eat a pigeon for lunch one day, while it was being heckled by two crows. Eventually it left the remains of the carcass for the crows!

That is so cool. All the birds in the area know they might be his dinner some evening.

Ohhhh! She/He is so beautiful! Do you know what kind of Owlette?
Very cool, indeed :)

I think it is a Barred Owl. Based on the pattern and the sounds. He makes a shrick for food. Saw his Mom or Dad bring him something. Not close enough at the time to see what it was.

If it's not a Barred owl than it's a spotted owl.

Oh what a cute baby owl! We have had an owl here at some point, but I think it was an adult, and I never saw it, just heard it. We are thinking that the other birds are just nervous because even though he/she is a baby, he/she is probably a hungry baby!

I was just in the back yard and I found it. Sitting on a tree just outside my back side fence. Quiet as can be. No birds singing at it.

I like my birds but I so hope this owl survives.

Not easy being a Mom of many ... feathered or fur ...

We had a barred owl perched just outside our dove pen. No doubt the owl was interested in eating the doves. But he was amazing to view so close-up. You got a great picture! And you're right, vacations? I'll take a Staycation any day.

Wow, what a fantastic photos you got of the barred owl! I love it!

There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all of the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for those who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living.
