Sounded like a great place ...

Exercise Ashton & Meredith style
In my search to find myself
Yes, even a fifty something young lady can do that
I have been researching ways to work out
To get out of the house
Meet people
Take a class
I found that a new YMCA has opened
Sort of near me
Over the hill
Down the lane
Across the bridge
Sort of close
(Not really but less than a half an hour away)
So, I read the reviews and looked it up
It sounded like a great place
Yoga and all sorts of things that hurt to do
It was the fees that caused me to stop
OUCH ... is all I want to say
A one time joining fee
A big monthly fee
All to maybe lose some weight
Is this what everyone does ?
Could you give me some advice ?

So far I have managed to ignore that urge!

After my illness I joined a gym. One does have to shop around to find one that is reasonably priced and has the stuff you are looking for though. There can be a wide variation in price so some digging is worthwhile.

We hope you will find somewhere that is reasonable......part of the reason that mamabug is so housebound is the fact her fixed income won't allow her to do much at the prices out there today.

We suggest getting the Wii Fir Plus. Also, rumor has it, you can get the Wii through your insurance. We have it and what a GREAT workout you get! It will give you a routine for each day and everything! It's totally PAWesome. Good luck and love the picture today!

a good thursday jc.
i did not join the y for the money reason as well.
i think for the most part we can exercise on our own. walking of course the big thing...and when i do i feel oh so much better. i would love to get into swimming again but, as of yet, have not found something i am willing to pay for. hubby and i have discussed a stationary/recumbant bike and still may go that route. it is in the house or on the patio and we can use it year round.
good luck in your search...know you will figure something out.

JC they say the best low impact exercise is walking. So when the weather is shitty, as now I walk inside. Otherwise I walk down the road, and when I feel like a quicker walk I take one of the dogs lol. I would love to try yoga but no motivation. Helps when someone does it with you. But here I have only myself. I also heard that the Wii really do not give you any better of a work out then walking. Get one of the pedomiters and clip to your pants, they say try to get lol atleast 10,000 steps a day.

Hubby and I are on week two of Atkins. I have a stationary bike and A Richard Simmons Sweating to the Oldies video to get me moving. Then I garden and swim or walk during the summer; walk when the weather permits. The thing to do is find a physical activity you enjoy.

Thanks !!!
I think walking is the thing for me. I also have a few vids to dust off & try. I don't think I would get to the gym enough .. to pay for it.

(I need a spell check or new fingers ... where are those darn kitty cat helpers when I need them)

We joined the park district fitness center - for a while it was great but then work got in the way and we stopped going. Well, I went a bit longer but the boyfriend stopped fairly quickly. I think for some people the cost is the motivator, but for others it isn't. But it is a way to get out and do something. You could see if you have a park district that has facilities, because they are usually less expensive (ours wasn't too bad). In my mind the Y should be in the less expensive category too, but for some reason they seem really pricey.

I walk, but I need to do more. I didn't realize the Y had so many fees.

Walking is great! As you know, I'm a yoga fiend. Love my yoga, but I only do the DVD's. 1. I won't pay the prices for classes and 2. I like to do it when I'm ready to do it. Bicycling is another big fave of mine.

I'd go with walking, too!

Meowm is kind of hit and miss at the gym, but when she is there she does bike and elliptical for cardio-no treadmill cause her knees are arthritic, and she does light weights for some toning in the rest of the body. She doesn't like to do much outside because of allergies and asthma-thank goodness she isn't allergic to us!

As far as doing something to meet people-she says to let her know when you find something. She mainly meets people thru work. She has tried book groups at book stores, but hte genre they read has not appealed to her.

Good luck!

Mom walks here and takes longer hikes when she can with a buddy or Pop. We had a exercise machine but never used it! we are so ahppy the boys got adopted! Mom tried to put their photos on the blog but had trouble with that.

There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all of the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right and pray for those who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living.
